A new Swatch!

For someone who has many watches, I suddenly found myself without a watch to wear!
- My 10 years old Omega Seamaster is in the workshop for a major overhaul that is going to bankrupt me;
- My favorite casual Donald Duck watch has a crack across its face :( so I guess I won't be wearing it anymore;
- My other beige Swatch Skin battery died (permanently) on me. Think it's too old liao;
- My brown Emporio Armani battery is dead as well;
- I sent my Franck Muller in for regular servicing;
- And not to mention the many Swatches that I have in the storeroom whose batteries are all dead;
- So I am only left with my white Chopard.
So I got this!

The packaging

Two of our favourite colours - black & white! The dial is actually quite interesting in that it is textured, although cannot really see from the picture.

Hong Kong, 2010

Took a one-night trip to Hong Kong and did quite a lot actually. I met up with Donna for a Korean BBQ dinner and had noodles lunch and afternoon desserts with Jeffrey. Bought two pairs of shoes, one dress, tons of tops, skincare stuff and bags of snacks and tidbits. Of course, no trip to Hong Kong is ever complete without the quest for the "must-eat" food.

Tai Cheong puffs Tai Cheong egg tarts Soft and smooth.... Mak's Noodles beef brisket noodles Mak's Noodles veggies HK-style yong tau foo Sago with chin chow in coconut Sweet potato with tang-yuan On the only morning I had in HK for this trip, I had to make a trip to Mido Cafe for the french toast. The sky was overcast and it was pouring! I borrowed a brolly from the hotel and I had to walk the wet streets in the pouring rain from the MTR station to Mido Cafe. When I was walking in the pouring rain, I was thinking to myself that I am really so determined to do so much to eat the french toast! My only pair of shoes were soaked through and I had to wear them for the whole day! Finally arrived @ Mido Cafe! I was early and I had to wait 90 minutes for it to open!
I remembered a Yee Shun Milk Company along Nathan Road near Mido Cafe, so I reckon I should go get a seat and wait for Mido Cafe to open (@ the same time, get my feet outta the wet shoes!). I decided to order the steamed milk. And had a bowl of macroroni soup Then I went back to Mido Cafe again. On the way back, I stepped into a shop and then had my brolly stolen! :( What an adventure! THIS IS SO WORTH IT! All the calories, the wet shoes, the stolen brolly...YUMMY!

Bag for 2010

I am hoping that this will be the only expensive bag that I buy in 2010, to adhere to my resolution.

It was shipped from Europe and was delayed! Never expected that a volcanic eruption thousands of miles away had an impact on me!Black nappa leather with no loud logos. I like the gold hardware details at the bottom of the bag. I like bags which are understated and do not have those loud logos screaming the brand name. The only logos on this bad are on the two zips. I like! :)

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2009

Was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for work recently. Then I stayed on over the weekend to spend some time with Weiling.

Attention to details in personalising the dessert!

I love the macarons!

Daily treats in the hotel room It's strips of melon made into a rose I spent the weekend with Weiling. Her neighbour has two adorable puppies and they are so deprived of human interaction that any indication of attention on them will get 100% of their attention. Tidbits! Treats for Coffee!

Nike Free 5.0

Nike Free 5.0

I have never been a believer in Nike running shoes. I always felt that they only look good but when it comes to performance as running shoes, they fall behind Asics and adidas. So it's on an auspicious day that I parted with my money for a pair of Nike Free 5.0.

There has been a lot of literature recently on how humans were made to run barefoot and how modern running shoes (with their thick cushioning and soles) are actually bad for us and causing more injuries than good.

And because most of us cannot run barefoot for safety reasons (think germs, glass, stones, dog poo etc.), Nike came out with Nike Free 5.0 which is supposed to simulate barefoot running. The Nike Free series comes in three versions: Free 3.0, Free 5.0 and Free 7.0 with increasing thickness/cushioning (but still minimal compared to other running shoes). So I decided to go with the middle - 5.0.

When Nike first launched the Free series, it was not very popular and was written off by many runners. A lot of them started getting injuries from using the Free shoes (which is contrary to what it is supposed to do!). The reason was because after years of running in shoes with tons of cushioning and support, these people took the Free and ran 20km, 30km for the first run. When your legs are not used to this minimal cushioning, when you pushed your body to start using muscles that it has never used before for 20km - 30km, it is no wonder that your body will protest!

I decided to be cautious and did the first two runs in this pair of shoes on the treadmill; first for 3km and then 5km. The soft landing of the treadmill does help in lessening the impact. I did not feel anything during the run but I must say that my certain parts of my calf muscles were definitely aching that night (so I assuming that I am using those muscles that I have never used before).

It's too soon for the verdict to be out. I am planning to wear the Free 5.0 for my runs on tarmac around my housing estate. Let's see how it holds up on "normal" roads....stay tuned!
